Do it afraid

September 8, 2020

Some people knew exactly what they were meant to do when they were young, and spent the rest of their lives perfecting their craft. I was not one of them. I know that I'm definitely not one of those people. I spent my growing years drifting to whatever was the flavour of the day. When it came time to go to university, I naturally went to Engineering school, because it sounded cool. I did well, but never really had a passion to build things.

Fast forward a few years, and I am now training and coaching individuals and organizations in developing and implementing strategies for their lives, for their careers and for their businesses. When I started my business, I didn't know what 'ticked'. I did not have the 'epiphany' that some claim they had. I tried different things, enrolled in an MLM business, then my insurance license. It didn't help. I still had no passion.

That said, while I was trying out all these different 'side' businesses, I've always found joy when I was able to help others through coaching and consulting. When I see clients realize their epiphany moment, that's my moment of joy.

Do it imperfectly

Some times, you have to do things imperfectly, and do it afraid. Try different things until you experience the 'click'. That's my experience. I have waited for the perfect moment, and I waited a long time. I was waiting for the inside voice or the Holy Spirit to show me a sign. I waited and there was no sign. I sometimes doubted myself and my abilities. But I did it anyway. It's better to do it, fall, and climb back up than never do it at all.

What about you? Is there anything that you have been dreaming about, or have always wanted to try something, but never got to it because you doubt yourself and your own capabilities? Afraid that someone might label you a failure just because you tried something and it didn't work? What if you are able to shift that thinking to find 10 ways that it didn't work for you and one that did?

Sometimes, you just need to circle yourselves with like-minded individuals who will encourage you and push you forward. Sometimes, these people may not be your immediate family members, but people that have the same belief system as you. There are many 'challenges' that are all over Facebook that you can participate in. You may also work with a coach or an individual that understands you, and help you with identifying your specific skills, and design a roadmap that will help you get to your destination faster.

Timing is everything. Or is it?

There will never be a right moment or right time. It's whether the time is right for you to take the plunge forward. Just jump off the building. Take calculated risks before you jump. Do your analysis, but don't go down the rabbit hole that you analyze too much that you forget to jump. Trust me, you will grow wings on your way down. I grew mine. Ask me how.
